Charlie Haas' life was firefighting. Charlie never made a secret of his
love for firefighting and his dedication did not go unnoticed. He joined
the High Falls Fire Department at the age of 16 and after almost two
years of training, he became one of the most enthusiastic and dedicated
firefighters in Ulster County. Charlie enlisted in the Air Force as a
Firematics Specialist and from there planned to have a career as a paid
firefighter.

On February 16, 1981 Charles Richard Haas was killed while fighting a
fire that ended a promising career before it actually began. He died
doing what he loved the most.
